Headline "200 in 150" with a stopwatch reading 45 seconds per question

The MBA CET paper starts, and the first logical reasoning puzzle looks friendly. Five people, five floors, a few clues. You draw the building, place two people, and get stuck on the third. Six minutes later you've solved the puzzle, answered five questions, and fallen 90 seconds behind the pace you needed. By the end of the paper, 40 questions are still untouched.

MAH MBA/MMS CET isn't a hard paper question by question. Most of it is easy to moderate. It's a race: 200 questions in 150 minutes, which works out to 45 seconds a question. The students who score 99+ don't know more than you. They move through the paper with a fixed order, a strict time limit per question, and a rule that no question ends blank.

Quick answer: In MBA CET, you have about 45 seconds per question. Use two rounds: first solve every easy question in each section, then return to marked medium ones. A common order is Abstract Reasoning (15 min), Verbal (35), Quant (45), Logical Reasoning (50), with the last 5 minutes for answering every blank, since there's no negative marking.

The MBA CET pattern

Section Questions Marks
Logical Reasoning 75 75
Abstract Reasoning 25 25
Quantitative Aptitude 50 50
Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension 50 50
Total 200 200

150 minutes, computer-based, five options per question, +1 for a correct answer and no negative marking. No sectional time limits. The exam runs in several slots, and the State CET Cell normalises scores into percentiles. From the 2026 cycle, candidates get two attempts and the better score counts for CAP admissions.

Four blocks sized by questions: Logical Reasoning 75, Abstract Reasoning 25, Quant 50, Verbal 50

Why there's no reason to leave anything blank

With five options and no negative marking, a blind guess earns about 0.2 marks on average. If you guess 50 questions at the end, you can expect around 10 extra marks. In MBA CET, 10 marks can move you several percentile points and change which college you get in CAP.

Make this a habit in every mock: at about 145 minutes, stop solving and mark an answer for every blank question.

Section order and time plan

1 Abstract Reasoning 15 minutes
2 Verbal Ability and RC 35 minutes
3 Quantitative Aptitude 45 minutes
4 Logical Reasoning 50 minutes
Mark every blank 5 minutes

Abstract Reasoning first gives you 20-plus fast marks while your eyes are fresh. Verbal and Abstract are usually the highest-scoring sections in MBA CET. Logical Reasoning goes last because its puzzles can swallow time, and by then you know exactly how many minutes you have.

Test two other orders in your early mocks, such as Logical Reasoning first (fresh mind for puzzles) or Verbal first (if reading is your strength). Keep the one that scores best.

A 150-minute bar split into Abstract 15, Verbal 35, Quant 45, Logical 50 and fill blanks 5 minutes

The two-round method

Round 1: In each section, solve every question you can do quickly. If a question needs more than about 60 seconds, mark it and move on.

Round 2: With the time left, return to the marked medium questions, starting with the ones you were closest to solving.

Final 5 minutes: Answer every remaining blank.

Two rules keep this method honest:

  • The 60-second rule. No approach in 60 seconds means mark and move.
  • The 4-minute puzzle rule. A long Logical Reasoning puzzle with five questions is worth it only if you can solve it in about four minutes. Otherwise, take the single-question items first.

99.9 About 149 to 150
99.5 About 137

The 99th percentile has needed about 129 to 131 marks in most recent years. CAP cutoffs at the top colleges move in decimals. JBIMS, for example, has closed near 99.99 percentile for all-India open seats, so every extra mark matters at the top. The CAP process guide explains how percentiles turn into college seats.

Section tips for speed

Logical Reasoning (75 questions)

The biggest block. In MBA CET 2026, it had a few big puzzles and many single questions: blood relations, direction sense, input-output, coded inequalities, syllogisms and seating. Do single questions first. Copy inequality symbols exactly; writing ≥ as > is a classic error.

Abstract Reasoning (25 questions)

Figure series, odd one out, analogies, mirror and water images, paper folding and figure counting. Learn a small rule list (rotation steps, counting patterns, shading moves) and practise 25 questions in 15 minutes.

Quantitative Aptitude (50 questions)

Mostly arithmetic in 2026: about 25 to 30 questions on speed and distance, profit and loss, percentages and similar topics. Questions are easy to moderate but have messy decimals. Approximate when options are far apart. There's no calculator.

Verbal Ability and RC (50 questions)

In 2026, about 20 RC questions across 5 passages, plus grammar, vocabulary, fill in the blanks and idioms. Read the questions before each passage. Vocabulary questions take seconds if you know the word.

Three-step method: round one easy questions, round two marked questions, final five minutes fill every blank

How to train your speed in 60 days

Phase Days Focus
Build 1 to 15 LR basics, arithmetic, AR rules, diagnostic mock
Strengthen 16 to 30 Puzzles, inequalities, DI, faster RC
Speed 31 to 45 Timed sets of 20 questions in 30 minutes, mock every 3 days
Perform 46 to 60 Full mocks, zero-blank habit, revision

Take 12 to 14 full mocks and at least one sectional of 75 LR questions in 55 minutes. Every mock ends with zero blanks.

Using the two attempts

From the 2026 cycle, MBA CET has two attempts and the better score counts for CAP. Treat the first attempt as your real exam. Between the two, take two or three mocks and focus on the section that lost you the most time. Check cetcell.mahacet.org for the current cycle's dates and rules.

Frequently asked questions

How much time do I get per question in MBA CET?

About 45 seconds. MBA CET has 200 questions in 150 minutes. Most students spend less on Abstract Reasoning and vocabulary, which leaves more time for puzzles and Quant.

Is there negative marking in MAH MBA CET?

No. A wrong answer scores zero, the same as a blank. Answer every question. A blind guess with five options earns about 0.2 marks on average.

Which section should I attempt first in MBA CET?

A common choice is Abstract Reasoning first, then Verbal, Quant and Logical Reasoning. There are no sectional time limits, so test two or three orders in mocks and keep the one that gives you your best score.

How many questions should I attempt in MBA CET for 99 percentile?

Solve about 150 questions at around 85 percent accuracy and guess the rest. In 2026, about 124 to 131 marks matched the 99th percentile, depending on the slot.

Does MBA CET have sectional cutoffs?

No. MBA CET has no sectional time limits and no sectional cutoff. Your overall normalised percentile is what counts for CAP.
